Ryan Van Winkle - Launch of The Good Dark

Tuesday 2nd June - 7pm - Wyndham Arcade (entrance from Mill Lane side)

Celebrated Edninburgh writer takes 'intimate and haunting' poems from stage to page.

Published 15th May by award-winning literary press Penned in the Margins, The Good Dark includes poems from Van Winkle’s one-on-one poetry show Red, Like Our Room Used to Feel, one of the best-rated shows at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2012 and described by Lyn Gardner in The Guardian as 'intimate and haunting'.

American-born Van Winkle is an energetic force in the Scottish arts scene. Formerly Poet in Residence at Edinburgh City Libraries, he is a seasoned podcaster, has chaired events at both Edinburgh Art and International Book Festivals, and has toured to countries as various as Australia, Pakistan, Syria and Iraq. In 2014 he was featured in Canongate's Future Forty, which praised his ability to take poetry "to a whole new audience".

The Good Dark - his first full collection since 2010 - cements Van Winkle's reputation as one of the most evocative poets writing today. Through a lyric voice both familiar and strangely different, he leads the reader through shifting forests of memory and towards a grim acknowledgement of the need to get up, to be careful, to move.
