When temperatures rise, hot tea can feel like a drink best saved for the cooler months. But that doesn’t mean tea needs to take a backseat. Cold brew teas offer a refreshing, flavourful way to stay connected to your favourite brews - no boiling kettle required.
Unlike iced tea, which is brewed hot and then chilled, cold brew tea is steeped slowly in cold water. This gentle process draws out subtle flavours and natural sweetness, while reducing bitterness or astringency. The result is a smooth, easy-drinking infusion that works beautifully across a wide range of teas.
If you’ve ever ordered a short coffee in one of our teahouses, you may have noticed a small glass of cold brew tea served alongside - a palate cleanser and a little something unexpected. We find cold brew teas are worth keeping in the fridge year-round, particularly because they’re so easy to make and experiment with.
How to Make Cold Brew Tea
Use around 1g of loose-leaf tea per 100ml of cold, filtered water. Let it steep in the fridge for an hour, then taste and adjust depending on the tea and your flavour preference. Once you’re happy with the strength, simply strain and enjoy.
If you’re planning to serve it over ice, it’s important to brew a little longer - the added ice will dilute the flavour. If your brew tastes just right but you want to chill it further with ice when you serve then leave it to steep for another 30 minutes or so before straining.
