Full Description

English Breakfast is the most widely enjoyed black tea in the UK, yet many supermarket blends rely heavily on lower-grade teas that sacrifice depth for strength. Our version takes a different approach. Instead of using fillers, we work directly with Sri Lankan farms to source higher-grade leaves with a larger particle size. This preserves more of the natural aromatic oils, resulting in a cup with layered flavour rather than a one-dimensional punch.

The result is a tea that feels both familiar and elevated. It brews a robust, full-bodied liquor that stands up to milk and sugar if you prefer, but it is equally enjoyable on its own. By focusing entirely on quality Sri Lankan teas, we’ve created a blend that delivers the comfort of a traditional breakfast tea without the bitterness or flatness often found in mass-market versions.

Available as loose leaf or in biodegradable, high-quality tea bags, this English Breakfast is designed to meet you where you are - whether you’re brewing a pot at home or need a reliable cup on the go.

Origin

Sri Lanka

The character of any tea is shaped by where it is grown. Factors such as altitude, soil, rainfall, and climate all influence the final flavour in the cup. Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, has been producing tea since the 19th century and is now recognised worldwide for the quality of its black teas.

Medium to high elevation gardens in Sri Lanka are particularly prized. This is because teas grown at higher altitudes develop a brightness and clarity that lower-grown teas often lack, with a cleaner finish and more balanced strength. These conditions make Sri Lankan black teas a natural choice for blends such as English Breakfast, where consistency, body, and flavour are key.

By working directly with estates in Sri Lanka, we’re able to ensure traceability and quality.

Processing

Black tea is defined by its level of oxidation. After harvesting, the tea leaves are withered to reduce moisture, then rolled to break down the leaf structure and encourage enzymatic activity. The leaves are then heavily oxidised, a process that deepens colour, intensifies aroma, and develops the bold character associated with black tea.

One important factor in any tea is particle size. Many commercial breakfast teas are made from finely broken leaves, because they want them to brew quickly but often this produces a harsh or flat taste. For our English Breakfast tea, larger cut leaves have been selected. This ensures that you retain more of the natural aromatic oils, resulting in a fuller, more rounded flavour in the cup.

This careful approach to processing means the tea can deliver the strength expected of an English Breakfast, while also offering nuance and balance - qualities that become especially noticeable when enjoyed without milk or sugar.
